This Past Weekend Activities were AWESOME!

What a Glorious God We Serve!

We had a great weekend together, filled with the Word of God, evangelism, fellowship, worship, apologetics training, open-air preaching, lives that were touched, people coming to repentance and faith in Christ, and many praise reports!

Here is a quick recap...

"What's New in Creation Research?"
On Friday, we attended an awesome event about Creation Science. It was very informative and included highlights of 2008 International Conference on Creationism, which included a new state of the art genetic mutation simulation program that absolutely demonstrates the impossibility of mutation + natural selection producing genome.

As usual, our monthly CCN Saturday was wonderfully blessed, as we joined together for a day of fasting, prayer, worship, Word, one-to-one street evangelism, open-air preaching and godly fellowship!

We begun the day at Montclair State University, gathering for prayer, worship, and the Word of God. The message was on boldness.

We hit the streets for one-to-one evangelism and open-air preaching. There were many Muslims and professing Christians, who were not born-again and often clearly admitted so. We lovingly shared the gospel with them, filled with compassion, urgency, and boldness...

The brethren from Ramapo College of New Jersey stopped by with Blair Wingo, a wonderful sister in the Lord and poet, who performed a poetic evangelistic outreach at the college the night before.

One of the many testimonies: Some of the CCN members came out for the first time to share their faith after learning how in their CCN fellowship. Among them was Malita, who led a young woman, Laticia, to Christ.

Laticia made a profession of faith and was extremely grateful for the conversation. We exchanged information and she eagerly listened to our warnings about the trials, temptations, and tribulations that were sure to come. We instructed her to hold fast to Jesus, who would uphold her. When we asked how she felt, she said that she was so relieved to finally have "hope", referring to her life and afterlife. We assured her that Jesus is indeed our only hope.

There were many other testimonies of open hearts and grateful listeners that greatly encouraged us and brought such joy. Christ was truly glorified in Newark on Saturday!

Afterwards, we broke bread in the Student Center at Montclair State University. It was a joyous time of celebration and praise!

We pray that you will make it out to our future activities and current fellowships! Why miss out on what God is doing?

CCN Interviews Former Convicted "Serial Killer", now Born-Again

CHANGE Collegian Network Interviews with David Berkowitz, former convicted "serial killer" known as "The Son of Sam", now Born-Again Prison Pastor

[from CCN eNews. Sign up today]

A Testimony of the "Son of Hope"

David Berkowitz, formerly known as the "Son of Sam" and sentenced to life in prison as a serial killer is now known as the "Son of Hope". A good friend of the ministry, David, who is now born-again and a church leader in his prison, lovingly agreed to be interviewed by CCN. We worked with David, and his best friend Dan Nichols to begin sharing his testimony on college campuses. One of our campuses events received an international award. We pray that the interview will push you to share the biblical gospel with the understanding that no matter how "great" someone's sin may be in our eyes, it is all an abomination to God. Christ's love is immeasurable.

"After years of mental torment, behavioral problems, deep inner struggles and my own rebellious ways, I became a criminal. Looking back it was all a horrible nightmare and I would do anything if I could undo everything that happened. Six people lost their lives. Many others suffered at my hand, and will continue to suffer for a lifetime. I am so sorry for that. In 1978 I was sentenced to about 365 consecutive years, virtually burying me alive behind prison walls. As with many inmates, life in prison is a struggle. I have had my share of problems, hassles and fights. At one time I almost lost my life when another inmate cut my throat. Yet all through this - and I did not realize it until later - God had His loving hands on me." Interview by Tiffany Gelpi
Sullivan Correctional Facility

Tiffany: Thank you for allowing us to use your testimony in reaching out to college students. Why do you feel it is necessary to reach out to college students?

David B.: Reaching out to college students and young adults is something the Lord has placed in my heart since I was first born again. My heart is especially tender towards adolescents, teenagers and college students because, when I was in this age group, I was very troubled, lonely and vulnerable. I remember how depressed I would sometimes get. I've also been touched by the stories I'd hear of teenagers and young adults who committed suicide, or whose lives ended tragically due to bad choices. So my desire is to testify of what Christ has done for me, hoping my story would change others.

Tiffany: Now that your best friend, Dan Nichols is traveling from college to college sharing your personal testimony of how God changed you, what do you hope to accomplish?

David B.: Dan Nichols is a good friend. We have a common desire to share the good news of Jesus with others. That doors have now opened for Dan to share my story of God's forgiveness and redemption in colleges is truly an answer to prayer.

Tiffany: CHANGE Collegian Network is a ministry that trains and encourages Christians to be proactive in seeking and saving the lost, specifically on campus. Do you proactively witness to inmates at the correctional facility where you live?

David B.: Yes, I believe in being a "proactive" witness, and I do evangelize even here behind prison walls. Sharing what God has done for a person is the responsibility of every Christian, I believe. We all have a story to tell. Plus, the world is lost and steeped in sin. People are perishing. They're headed for a Christ-less eternity in Hell unless they repent of their sins and place their faith in Jesus Christ. God is not willing that any should perish, but that all come to repentance.

Tiffany: You are now Pastor at the correctional facility. How did that come to be and what are your duties as a pastor there?

David B.: I have been serving the Lord in the prison's chapel since 1988. After a while I was made an elder in the fellowship I belong to. Then in 2004, after the previous inmate pastor went on a transfer, the mantle for leadership fell on me. So I became the pastor, although this title is not recognized by the prison's administration. Here no inmate is allowed to have a leadership position in an official capacity. Nevertheless, the Holy Spirit has appointed various individuals to do certain tasks to edify the church. I am honored by the opportunity to lead, serve and be an example to the flock. I want to be a servant and a faithful brother to those within the body of Christ.

Tiffany: You told me that you were "very busy" in prison. One of our subscribers to our e-newsletter wrote to us and would like to know what you have been doing in the prison since becoming born-again. What keeps you so busy?

David B.: I have two job assignments here at the prison. In the mornings, I am a "mobility guide" for the men who are legally blind or sight-impaired. In the afternoons, I work as a helper and assistant to the men who live at the prison's Intermediate Care Program. This is a Mental Hygiene Unit for the emotionally challenged men. Both of these jobs are, I believe, part of the ministry God has given me.

Tiffany: When we met, you shared that you once attended church while you were in the army. You said that it provided a sort of social benefit. The church allowed you to meet new and friendly people. However, this was before you got involved in Satanism, which led to the unfortunate crimes that were committed. Can you please tell me why you attended the church and if you considered yourself "born-again" then? Did you respond to an altar call at any time? What was the difference between then and when you were born-again in your prison cell after reading the Bible in 1987?

David B.: When I was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky during my enlistment in the U.S. Army, there was a large off post Baptist church in a nearby town that reached out to the soldiers. Every Sunday morning several red, white and blue church buses would drive up and down the streets of the post and the workers would invite the soldiers to come to church and have a meal afterwards. So at the age of 21, after being at the post for a couple of months, bored, lonely and far from home, I got on a bus along with some other men and went to church. It was a nice setting but I didn't know what to expect since I came from a Jewish background. People were extremely nice and friendly. Later we'd all go to a family's home to join them for lunch. A couple by the name of Miller took me in.

After a while, I did make a profession of faith in Christ. I went forward during an altar call when one of the elders tapped me on the shoulder to gently encourage me to "go forward." He led me to the front and left me in the hands a counselor who stayed at the altar to tell people how to be saved. I repeated a "sinner's prayer" although I have no recollection of what I said. Afterwards, however, the Miller's an some of their friends greeted me with extra warmth. Looking back, although these were wonderful people, I felt more like I was now becoming a member of their own family rather than of the body of Christ, as would be the case with a genuine conversion.

I became more involved in this Baptist church's social activities, but my life did not change. I was given a King James Bible to read. I remember reading it and marking some of the pages, but I would also drink with my friends and look at lots of pornography. I mostly wanted to go back to New York City and start a new life. Sadly, after maybe six or seven months of attending church on Sundays and eating lunch with the Miller's, I gradually lost interest and stopped going altogether.

Tiffany: What would you like to share with our readers?

David B.: The Bible says in Romans 15:5 and 15:13 that God is a God of patience and hope. I am thankful He was patient with me and gave me time to repent of my many sins and then surrender to Him. Now He has become my Hope and my reason to live. Praise the Lord!
________________________________________________________

After another inmate witnessed to David in prison, David was soundly saved in 1987, when he repented of his sins and put his faith in Christ. David's story is one of hope and grace. His story is also a lesson to all of us that we cannot simply lead one through a sinner's prayer, but we have to take the time to bring them to the knowledge of their sin before a just and holy God. We must use the law (the 10 commandments) to show an unbeliever what sin is and why his or her actions merit eternity in Hell in light of God's eternal holiness. Then, an unbeliever can understand why they need the Saviour Jesus Christ. Teaching Topic: The Doctrine of Justification through Faith Alone

Join us as we begin a series on
The Doctrine of Justification by Faith Alone

The most significant difference between Christianity and other belief systems is the belief in how one is made right with God. In other words, how does a human being, who is a sinner by nature (breaking the commandments of God) able to have right standing before the Holy, Sinless Judge of the universe?

Some believe that you must have faith and perform good works to "merit" God's approval, be forgiven of sin, and enter Heaven. Others believe you must have faith and be baptized or have faith and keep the Saturday sabbath in order to be right with God, and so on.

However, Christians believe that we are saved from the punishment of our sins simply by faith alone in Jesus Christ. This is called the Doctrine of Justification by Faith Alone.

Can you prove this foundational theology to an unbelievers through scripture?

We invite you to come out for prayer, worship, and the Word of God @ CHANGE Collegian Network (CCN) at MSU:

CCN @ MSU - Why and How is it different?

What makes CHANGE Collegian Network (CCN) different from other Christian ministries at MSU?
*
The Lord has blessed MSU with more than one on-campus ministry. Let the Lord lead you to which ministry you should commit to.
*
What makes CCN different from the other ministries?
*
Apologetics - n. (used with a sing. verb)
1. The branch of theology that is concerned with defending or proving the truth of Christian doctrines. 2. Formal argumentation in defense of something, such as a position or system.
*
CCN focuses heavily on rooting and grounding Christians in their faith, strengthening their Christian theology (study of God), and preparing them to"be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear" (1 Peter 3:15) through the use of apologetics.
*
*
In CCN meetings, we not only learn about our own faith, but we also learn about other faiths: how they are similar and how they differ. We learn how to share our faith with others intelligently and compassionately. Whether we are refuting evolution or relativism, the goal is always to bring others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ through the preaching of His gospel (Mark 16:15).
*
Then, we all go out as a group and we put what we learn into action!

*
Along with Bible study and apologetics, we also enjoy group worship, prayer, special events, on and off campus fellowship.
*
*
Come out and join us as we endeavor to fulfill Mark 16:15 on campus!
*
Main Meetings (Worship/Word/Apologetics): Tuesdays 2:30pm – 4:30pm
Prayer and Devotional Bible Studies: Thursdays 9:30am – 11:15am
Location: SC 415 (Student Center)

See you at the family gathering!

7 Reasons to Join CCN...

Why should you join CCN @ MSU?
Here are 7 of the many reasons you should join CHANGE Collegian Network at Montclair State University in SC 415 on Tuesdays @ 2:30PM - 4:30PM for our main meetings [worship, Bible study, apologetics, or evangelistic outreaches] and Thursdays @ 9:30AM - 11:15AM for our prayer and devotional Bible studies!

Strengthen or Develop a Close Relationship with Jesus Christ
Our weekly meetings will not only include awesome worship and group prayer, but we will be digging into the Word of God, teaching the glorious depth of the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith. Whether you are a Christian who regularly performs exegetical studies of the Word of God, a new believer, or a seeker, you will enjoy diving into foundational theology with us!
*
*
Cultivate Your Faith Among Other Believers Who Will Challenge You to Grow Closer to Christ
Iron sharpens iron! As family in the faith, we encourage others to diligently seek the Lord, constantly renewing our minds in Christ. On a campus that is filled with temptation, our
relationship with one another is more than just acquaintances. We are here to encourage one another while it is still today, and be conformed to the image of Christ while esteeming our brethren higher than ourselves!
*
*
Learn How to Lovingly and Effectively Share Your Faith with Everyone from Atheists to Individuals of Other Religious Backgrounds
Want to share the gospel with others but don't know what to say? Is your faith wavering because of strange philosophies taught in class that is contrary to your faith? Our fellowships include apologetics. What is that? Apologetics - n. (used with a sing. verb) The branch of theology that is concerned with defending or proving the truth of Christian doctrines.
*
*
Put What You Learn into Immediate Practice with the Help of the Team
We don't only teach how to share your faith, we also go out and share our faith on campus together. Get "hands-on" training in spreading the good news of Jesus Christ with people of various beliefs and worldviews in a group setting. We are here to walk alongside you! So, if you are looking for a challenge to grow, this is the place!

Become Part of a Team and Help Bring AMAZING Life-Changing Events to the Campus
Our goal is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone on campus. One of the ways are sharing the good news is through creative mediums and special guest speaker events. Come join our team and help plan these eternally beneficial campus events, including a Christian rap concert in the Quad, a special speaker advocating for persecuted Christians around the world, and our educational First Amendment Rights event! We are looking for Christians who are willing to contribute to the phenomenal CHANGE that is about to occur on the MSU campus through Christ!
*
*
Become Part of a Family and Take Part in Eternally Beneficial Off-Campus Events
Once a month, campuses with CCN fellowships get together to experience "CCN Saturday", a day separated to the Lord for fasting, praying, worship, Word, one to one evangelism and open-air preaching in New York City and other cities in New Jersey. Come and labor alongside other Christians, who have a heart to serve the Lord! We also have other off-campus activities, such as conferences on issues concerning the faith.
*
*
Bring Your Creative Ideas to the Table and Help the Campus Learn about Christ
As a CCN member, your ideas for bringing the gospel to the campus can help build and drive the team. Every member is important and needed to fulfill Christ's prayer for laborers. What a fulfilling role it is to help drive the ministry forward as we are led of the Lord to bring this eternal message of hope to the students of MSU! CCN members are an intricate part of an amazing vision and its fulfillment! Be the answer to Christ's prayer for laborers!

We're Back in Full Effect at MSU!

We have graduated from "the table in the caf" to SC 415!

Finally, as an official club on campus, we get our own spot to gather. So, come on out and join us again for greater fellowships, prayer, worship, Word, evangelism, and apologetics. Learn more about the Christian faith and how to compassionately spread the love of Christ to others! Plus, we have wonderful campus events planned and great speakers. Come and learn more about it!

Main CCN Fellowship: Every Tuesday 2:30PM - 4:30PM

FIRST Fellowship: Tuesday, September 16th! Plan to come and invite your friends and forward this message!

Fellowship Location: SC 415

Group Prayer and Devotional Bible Study: Every Thursday 9:30AM - 11:15AM

We need all hands on deck for the upcoming Student Organization Fair, when all the clubs get to present their organization. We will set up our table at 2PM in the SC Quad or in the SC ballrooms, if it rains. Meet us out there! Let us know you will be there: email contact@changeyourcampus.net!

Event: Student Organization Fair

Date and Time: Wednesday, Sept. 17th @ 2PM - 4:30PM [come for as long as you can, but we need people committed to the whole time]
